This PUNCH Newspaper headline [Reps approve compulsory vocational studies in secondary school] is proof that we’re winning – at least on THIS front, and at long last too.
Only a few weeks ago, I attended a follow up meeting with senior officials at the Ministry of Education, who had invited the Chairman of the State Parents Forum to discuss with me.
The meeting was arranged following my letter to the Commissioner for Education (photo in 1st comment below) in which I’d requested the Ministry’s endorsement of my Best Practice Parenting & Schooling (BPPS) program, which I conceived and began implementing using print and digital technology.
For example, my print magazine is distributed offline – FREE – to key individuals and organizations, the PDF version is provided via www.tksola.com and video trailers are published on my channel at www.tayosolagbade.com/youtube.
In addition, I offer to give FREE talks to any groups that invite me. I made it clear my program is fully self-funding and that my digital marketing proficiency, coupled with my passion as a parent keen on promoting real world relevant education, make it easy for me to do it all. So I’m not fishing for funding.
My message to them was that the school system needs to modify its curriculum to reflect equal importance being placed on both academic and INCOME EARNING VOCATIONAL SKILLS BASED education (50:50).
I also emphasized that parents have a duty, indeed an obligation (!), to give every child vocational skills based education, IN ADDITION TO ACADEMIC EDUCATION s/he gets – especially if the schools fail to provide it – or if what they offer is not good enough to prepare the child adequately to fend for him/herself post schooling, in the real world.
For those parents who have been telling me kids should be made to focus exclusively on book studies till they leave school, so they can get so called good grades, THIS BILL PASSED BY THE REPS is my final response to you. Success in life is not dependent on grades e.g A1 etc!!!
PS: Coincidentally, my daughters (12 and 15 years) will be running their first ever Hairstyling Experience Sharing/Coaching Clinic for kids (aged 6 to 16 years) tomorrow Saturday 1st May at a Saloon in Ikeja.
They began learning in 2018. Now they actually get paid to style hair and are about to start coaching others. We are all so excited!
Attendees have already pre-registered yesterday. Details in a trailer video I will post soon.
