The point made by Robert Kiyosaki in the above screenshot of his Facebook post is valid – and underscored with emphasis by:
(a) my personal experiences, some of which I’ve described in the true story narrated below AND
(b) the powerful quote I have appended to the bottom of this piece.
During my Startup years (from 2002 to well into 2007), people laughed at me for daring to think I could sell “ordinary Excel files” or get hired to build what I told them were “Custom Excel-Visual Basic driven Spreadsheet Software”.
One acquaintance, who was CEO of a small Lagos based IT firm said:
“Who’s going to pay you for that?”
Another CEO walked me out of his office mockingly saying (as his seated guests chuckled in amusement):
“What software can you possibly build for me with Excel? I can teach YOU Excel!”
And those were just a few. I can tell you horror stories. But you get the point.
NOBODY BELIEVED ME. MANY THOUGHT I WAS STUBBORN and UNREASONABLE.
Here’s what I did…
I ignored the naysayers + kept pushing with conviction.
I n 2004, my first ever Excel-VB client paid N100k for a custom spreadsheet software he requested after seeing a demo. Other jobs followed via lots of pavement pounding and street smart marketing.
I was relentless.
In 2007. a hospital client paid N200k for a custom reporting spreadsheet software.
Then I started building custom spreadsheet software up front based on needs I saw in different markets + offered them for sale e.g. my popular Excel-VB Ration Formulator.
Initially I tried selling by physically visiting farm premises to speak with owners.
The response was poor. Most shunned me. Later I realized I could use my self-taught Web Design/Marketing expertise to promote the ready to use software to a global audience.
So I began posting screenshot demonstration videos of my software in use on YouTube.

Today I’ve built a reputation for selling custom Excel-VB software to clients in and out of Africa.
My flagship custom software sell for between $65 to $375 USD. This is more or less passive income earned from repeatedly selling custom software I built years ago (with periodic updates)
I’ve even gotten paid 2,500 Euros by a European Union funded NGO based in Holland to write a 4,000 word case study paper about how Farm CEOs use my Ration Formulator to make balanced feed for their livestock.
But I refuse to rest on my oars, and instead I keep striving to offer solutions at a higher level
For instance, I’ve recently launched Mobile Phone App versions of my Ration Formulator (built in 2004) as well as my Excel-VB Payslips and Salaries Schedule Generator Software (which I first built in 2007 for a Lagos hospital). Already some of my clients/users have indicated interest in getting
