Pete Edochie is frank and unapologetic in expressing his views. I find that to be a refreshing quality in any man or woman. Someone who refuses to be bothered by the supposed need for political correctness.
His most recent boat rocking assertion that “Feminism is the reason women are beaten up in marriage” has generated mixed reactions – with most of the younger generation disagreeing.
In order to criticize something, you must first study and ensure you understand it. I’ve reflected deeply on the views he expressed, against the backdrop of my personal experiences in 2 decades of marriage with a Narcissistically Abusive Ex-Partner, as well as the impact on the kids we’ve produced.
It is my considered opinion, based on insights I gained, that Edochie’s critics miss 2 powerful FACTS he stated that call for deep reflection:
- That he has NEVER beaten his wife in over half a century of marriage.
- That the 5 sons he raised DO NOT beat their wives either.

These two facts are in themselves powerful proof that he succeeded in building a home free of Domestic Violence, and raising male children who are doing the same while ALL THE WHILE believing in the supposedly “outdated” African ideas about marriage that he chooses to express!
Me thinks wise couples who want successful marriages & kids who build successful homes, may find it useful to keep open minds and pay close attention to Pete Edochie’s wisdom.
Pete Edochie must know something the White people’s Feminism that we borrowed is missing!
The point he made about WEAK men – who I called “Pretenders to manhood” or “Weaklings in Men’s Pants” (WIMP) in my bulletin titled “BE A STRONG MAN & A GREAT FATHER!” (see www.tayosolagbade.com/strongman) really resonated with me.
You don’t have to beat or dominate a woman to be a strong man. But you must be willing to assert yourself when necessary, in your words and actions – instead of agreeing with women all the time just so they can call you a NICE OR GOOD GUY WHO IS NOT LIKE THE OTHERS.
We need to let our boys get taught how to be men by Strong Men, and our girls taught how to be Women by Authentic Women of Substance.
A woman cannot teach a boy how to be a Man. A Man cannot teach a girl how to be a Woman.
Men and Women have their unique roles to play in society. Neither gender can do it all.
